What we collect, and what we don't.

Your footage stays on your computer

CaddieStudio is a desktop app. Your clips, projects, and exported tracers are processed and saved on your own machine. They are never uploaded to us.

No payment details during the beta

Joining the beta doesn't require a credit card, a payment method, or an account. CaddieStudio will become a paid app after the beta, and beta testers will hear from us before that happens. Signing up doesn't commit you to anything.

Beta waitlist

If you join the waitlist, we collect the email address you enter. It's delivered to us through Formspree, our form provider, and we use it only to contact you about CaddieStudio: beta invites, releases, and pricing. We don't sell or share it. Ask us any time and we'll delete it.

Update checks

When the app starts, it downloads a small file from caddiestudio.com to see whether a newer version is available. That request carries no account, email, or project information. Like any website request, it reaches our host (Vercel), which keeps standard server logs.

Feedback reports

Send Feedback saves a short report on your computer (your message, app version, operating system, and recent app log lines) and opens an email draft in your own email app. Nothing is sent unless you choose to send that email.

No tracking

This website doesn't use analytics, advertising trackers, or cookies of its own.

Changes

If what the app sends or what we keep changes, we'll update this page first.

Licenses

How the license check works

Paid licenses aren't on sale yet, and beta builds up to 0.2.5 don't include a license check at all. Here's exactly what versions with licensing do.

Buying a license

Licenses are sold through Lemon Squeezy, our payment provider. You pay on their checkout page, and they handle your card details, billing address, receipts, and tax. We never see your card number. Lemon Squeezy emails you a license key and shares your purchase details (such as your name, email, and order) with us so we can support you. Their own privacy policy covers what they collect.

Two anonymous IDs on your computer

Versions of the app with licensing create two IDs, stored in the app's data folder. A machine fingerprint is a scrambled (one-way hashed) version of your computer's built-in system ID. It can't be turned back into that ID and contains nothing personal. An install ID is a random code made when the app is first installed. Neither one includes your name, email, files, or footage.

When the app contacts the license service

The license service is a small server we run on Cloudflare. While CaddieStudio is free, as it is now, the app doesn't contact it at all unless you enter a license key.

Activating a key: when you enter a license key, the app sends the key, the machine fingerprint, and the install ID. The service asks Lemon Squeezy whether the key is a real, active CaddieStudio license, and if it is, sends back a signed pass for that computer. The app then checks the pass itself, offline.

Renewing: each pass lasts 30 days. When it's within 14 days of running out, the app sends the same three things again at startup to get a fresh one. If you're offline, a license keeps working for another week after its pass runs out.

Free trial: if CaddieStudio ever has a free trial, the app sends only the fingerprint and install ID the first time the trial applies, so reinstalling can't restart the trial.

What the license service keeps

For each license, it keeps the license's ID and the fingerprints of the computers it's activated on (up to 3), so a key can't be shared without limit. For each trial, it keeps the fingerprint, the install ID, and the date the trial started. It doesn't store your license key, name, email, or anything from your projects. These records are kept with no set expiry, so that a license's device list and a trial's start date stay accurate. Email us and we'll delete yours, or free up a computer slot on your license.

Like any web request, these reach Cloudflare, which handles them under its own standard logging.

Stays on your computer

Your license key and its pass, how many tracers you've exported today, and the trial start date are saved only in the app's data folder. Export counts are never sent anywhere.
